Molton Brown has opened its first UK Scent Pavilion at Bluewater in Kent. This new store format is designed to elevate the role of physical retail by exploring how scent integrates into daily life. The immersive concept moves beyond traditional product categories, inviting customers to experience fragrance through the lens of personal ritual and domestic space.

Rooted in the brand's London heritage and sensory expertise, the environment features warm canvas, natural timber, and sculptural clay. The aim is to create a lighter, more inviting space for discovery. It represents a strategic shift for the Kao-owned beauty specialist as it seeks to engage new luxury audiences and build long-term international growth.

Three immersive worlds

The Scent Pavilion is structured around three interconnected environments: Cleanse Bathroom, Wear Dressing Room, and Live Living Room. This framework offers an intuitive way to handle the Molton Brown portfolio based on how customers live with scent.

The Cleanse Bathroom presents bath and body products as part of a sensorial daily ritual. The Wear Dressing Room provides an intimate setting for exploring personal fragrance, mood, and layering techniques. Finally, the Live Living Room explores how scent moves beyond the body and into the home. Together, these worlds bring the brand's 'Cleanse. Wear. Live.' positioning to life.

Personalised customer experience

At the heart of the space, Scent Stylists offer tailored guidance from a dedicated central workspace. Customers can receive personalised advice on exploring, layering, and curating fragrances. This service is designed to help individuals define their own fragrance style in a more distinctive and emotionally engaging way.

Strategic launch and broader rollout

Bluewater was strategically selected as the inaugural site due to Molton Brown’s long-standing presence and established customer base there. The location will serve as a testbed for refining the concept. Insights gathered from customer feedback and in-store observations will directly inform the broader rollout.

This opening is the first step in introducing the new design principles across selected standalone and wholesale environments. The planned expansion includes both the UK and international markets.

Brand vision and leadership

The launch reflects Molton Brown's continued evolution under Kao's ownership. Mark Johnson, President at Molton Brown Global, stated the opening captures the brand's future direction through a distinctive physical experience. "The opening of our first UK Scent Pavilion marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Molton Brown," Johnson said. He added that it builds on the heritage, craftsmanship, and sensory expertise that define the brand.

The concept was created in partnership with design studio Household. It aims to translate the feeling, world, and lifestyle behind the brand's fragrances. Molton Brown is one of six strategic focus brands, including Curél and SENSAI, supporting Kao’s global Cosmetics growth strategy. The appointment of Laura Hogan as Chief Marketing Officer will further lead the brand’s global vision and international growth strategy. Insights from the Bluewater location will be used to refine and adapt the Scent Pavilion concept as it rolls out across the UK and internationally.
