Sol de Janeiro has partnered with Channel 4 to produce a five-part vertical drama series launching across social platforms. The series, titled The Guest List, premiered on Channel 4’s Meta, TikTok, and YouTube platforms on 24 October. This collaboration marks a shift toward narrative-driven, entertainment-led marketing for fragrance brands seeking to connect with younger audiences.

How fragrance is integrated into the story

Each of the four main characters represents a different fragrance from Sol de Janeiro’s Intense Perfume Mists collection, with their personalities and storylines tied to specific scents. The Guest List features four women in their twenties living in London: Amaka, Aisha, Bella, and Mika. The story explores career dilemmas, new crushes, and getting ready for a night out, unfolding through the intimacy of the characters' group chat.

The approach places the fragrances within the characters' lives. Each character is directly inspired by a different scent in the new range.

The series captures the energy, humour, and unfiltered support of modern womanhood. It brings to life friendship, self-expression, and the joys and trials of being a young person today.

Brand and broadcaster motivations

Both Sol de Janeiro and Channel 4 see the project as a way to innovate in beauty storytelling and meet evolving audience habits on social media. The collaboration comes as brands explore ways to reach audiences through short-form video and entertainment-led content. For Sol de Janeiro, this move builds on its wider focus on social storytelling and community engagement.

Rebecca Pollard, Director of Marketing & Consumer Engagement for the UK and Ireland at Sol de Janeiro, said the drama was a chance to challenge what beauty content can be. The brand wanted to create something unexpected and culturally relevant for the world its community actually lives in. Channel 4's digital commissioning executive Ameenah Taher, who commissioned the series, described it as a character-led exploration of the friendship, ambition and lives of a diverse group of young women.

Production and casting details

The Guest List is Channel 4’s first vertical drama. It was produced by curly media, with Emma Walker as executive producer and Jade Greene as series producer. The partnership was brokered by media agency Zenith UK. The cast includes emerging actors like Deba Hekmat, known for Last Swim, and Jadesola Odunjo, who appeared in Netflix’s You.

Product context

The Intense Perfume Mists collection builds on the brand’s existing Cheirosa line. It is a more concentrated format developed in response to consumer demand for longer-lasting versions. The collection includes intensified versions of fan favourites Cheirosa 62 and Cheirosa 59, alongside the new scent Cheirosa 74. Another new scent, Cheirosa 91, is set to launch in December.
