L'Oréal Travel Retail and Avolta have formalised a joint Sustainability-Linked Business Plan. The agreement was signed at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference 2026 in Cannes, France, a global summit for the duty-free and travel retail industry. The partnership creates an operational roadmap focusing on lowering supply chain emissions and scaling circular solutions across international travel hubs.

Gen Z demand drives action in travel retail

The partnership responds directly to market data showing 80% of Gen Z shoppers are looking for sustainable beauty products in duty-free environments. This growing consumer demand for sustainable beauty is a primary driver behind the new strategic roadmap. The ambition is to translate this consumer expectation into concrete operational changes.

Refill formats and emissions reduction targets

A key focus is an ambition to achieve 10% refill formats across L'Oréal's core fragrance categories by 2030. The plan is described as a strategic roadmap to optimise operational impact and scale refillable beauty across global hubs. It will also focus on reducing transport-related emissions through low-emission transport methods and optimised truckload capacity. The commitment includes wider adoption of refillable beauty solutions and other operational improvements to lower the supply chain footprint.

Empowering beauty advisors with sustainability training

To support this shift, dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility training modules will be rolled out for frontline beauty advisors at international travel hubs. This Beauty Advisor empowerment initiative aims to strengthen the team's understanding of sustainability. The training is designed to better support customer engagement on these topics in airport and travel retail environments.

Leadership commitment to circular beauty in travel hubs

L’Oréal Travel Retail President Eva Yu and Avolta Chief Commercial Officer Nicolas Girotto presented the joint plan. Eva Yu stated, "Together with Avolta, we are translating shared sustainability commitments into measurable operational steps, expanding refillable beauty and lowering our logistics footprint across key travel hubs." Avolta, a global travel experience retailer operating across airports, motorways, cruises and rail hubs, combines travel retail and food and beverage. The agreement reflects both companies’ commitment to advancing sustainability in travel retail. The partnership sets out a roadmap to reduce supply chain emissions and scale circular beauty solutions across international travel hubs.
