Space NK CEO Emma Simpson-Scott details the retailer's experiential retail strategy, highlighting interactive fragrance stations and engraving services at

Space NK has won TheIndustry.beauty Innovators Award for Physical Retail in 2026. The British retailer's Oxford Circus flagship, which opened last year, earned the accolade for its experience-led concept.
New CEO Emma Simpson-Scott, who started her role on the day of the interview, explained the store's direction to the publication. She stated the flagship combines the expert curation Space NK is known for with immersive, social shopping. The goal is to make beauty discovery more engaging and shareable.
Interactive Features and Fragrance Focus
The Oxford Street store is designed as a beauty playground. It includes several interactive features aimed at deepening customer engagement. Specific areas mentioned are dedicated to fragrance discovery.
Simpson-Scott highlighted the Fragrance Discovery Table and Scent Station. The store also offers personalised services like fragrance engraving. These elements are part of a broader mix that includes Play Spaces and Viral Drops for new products.
A Destination for Discovery
The CEO described the location as a destination rather than just a shop. It houses a curated selection of emerging brands, exclusive launches, and established favourites. The intent is to capture a sense of excitement.
"It's designed to be a destination rather than simply a place to shop," Simpson-Scott told TheIndustry.beauty. She emphasized that the store brings together the best of beauty under one roof, whether a customer seeks skincare advice or the latest trending launch.
Strategy for Future Retail
The success of the flagship has reinforced the company's belief in physical retail. Simpson-Scott noted that customers still value service and human connection. But they now also expect experiential elements.
The response to interactive activations has shown the importance of creating relevant shopping moments. The model that combines discovery with trusted expertise will guide future investments. This approach aims to attract new customers while continuing to serve loyal ones.
Innovation and Industry Position
Innovation is central to Space NK's growth strategy, according to its CEO. This extends beyond products to how customers discover and shop for beauty. The retailer uses customer insight and trend analysis to identify emerging opportunities.
Simpson-Scott sees an industry with increasingly knowledgeable and discerning customers. She believes Space NK is well-positioned because it blends discovery with authority. The retailer can meet the needs of a Gen Z customer seeking a viral item and a long-standing client wanting skincare advice.
Looking ahead, Simpson-Scott promised more discovery and innovation. The plan is to continue investing in stores and digital experiences that feel personal and relevant. The ambition is to remain the partner for in-demand brands and the destination for beauty discovery.
Leanne Rouse, Marketing Director at Space NK, also spoke at the awards ceremony. She emphasized the importance of physical retail in creating a space where customers can do more than just shop.
