Escentric Molecules has opened its first-ever boutique in Berlin, Germany. The independent fragrance brand, celebrating its 20th anniversary, established the store in the capital's Mitte district, an area known for its galleries.

According to a brand statement, the opening represents a defining moment. Creative director and co-founder Paul White called it more than a retail space, describing it as a physical expression of the house's identity and an invitation to experience the brand in its purest form. White stated that Berlin has always been part of the brand's DNA and that creating a permanent home there deepens its community connection.

A Gallery for the Senses

The boutique's design draws from the location's history as an art gallery and its industrial heritage. It also leans into the brand's creative principle of synaesthesia, translating the fragrance experience across different senses. Architect Sophie Schoen-Berianidze, a partner at Schoen who worked on the project, said they envisioned a gallery-like space where fragrances could be experienced rather than simply displayed.

The space features what the brand calls a choreography of sound, visuals, light, and movement, creating an environment designed to be seen, heard, and felt. This multi-sensory approach is informed by White's creative practice, which spans music and visual culture.

An Interactive Fragrance Wall

Central to the boutique is an innovative product display system. It functions as both storage and a kinetic installation, built as a seamless aluminium grid of pull-out drawers. When closed, it appears as a single, monolithic surface with small illuminated cut-outs displaying individual fragrances.

Pulling one of the upper sections forward opens the wall, revealing a screen alongside shelves holding every format of that scent. The brand says this system turns browsing into a physical and unexpected act, transforming a solid architectural surface into a series of hidden worlds.

A Blurred Boundary

After dark, the products recede and the space transforms into a gallery, with images projected across the street. The boutique will host a continually evolving visual programme featuring artists, filmmakers, and other creative voices, intentionally blurring the boundaries between store, gallery, and creative space.

Perfumer and co-founder Geza Schoen said the store marks the final step in establishing Escentric Molecules as a truly independent fragrance house. He noted that every element reflects the brand's DNA, from the use of aluminium to the carefully crafted soundscape, aiming to create a calm, multi-sensory experience. Schoen concluded that the location feels like a natural home for the brand.
